Help Us Help Them! |

When we started Bradshaw Mountain Wildlife Association in 1995 our mission was mainly to rescue injured and orphaned wild animals, rehabilitate them and release them back to the wild. We have been located in the Bradshaw Mountains near the town of Cleator all these years on a 14-acre parcel that is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. We picked this location to build the sanctuary because it was the perfect setting to release wild animals back to the wild. We do not have any neighbors closer than a mile away. We are surrounded by Prescott National Forest on all sides. When the time came to release the healthy wildlife back to the wild all we had
to do was just open their door, wish them luck and off they would go. After 21 years of working and living out in the boonies it is starting to take its toll on all the workers, volunteers and myself who have to make the long 30 minute, 14-mile dirt road adventure every day just to get to the shelter or blacktop. Everyone’s cars are always breaking down from all the bumps in the road and getting flats from all the rocks and nails. I have been finding it stressful driving into Prescott (about 1 ˝ hours) almost every day to get supplies or take animals to our veterinary doctors. It is very hard to get new workers and volunteers that want to make the long drive out here. Over the last few years we have been taking in
more and more domestic animals that need our help and less wild animals so we no longer need to be this far out in the boonies. After months of talking with the board members, workers, and volunteers we decided we need to find another location closer to the Prescott area to move the shelter to. We have been looking for property in the Mayer, Dewey/Humbolt area. It is not easy trying to find a piece of land that can accommodate over 100 animals and be far enough away from neighbors so they do not complain about barking dogs and howling wolves. We found a few places that would make great locations but buying property closer to town is very expensive.
Uma's Haven:
If we want to continue to rescue animals for another 20 years, we have to make this move. We have started a Go Fund Me account to try and raise enough money for a down payment for the new shelter. The Go Fund Me is under the name of Uma’s Haven, why Uma’s Haven? Once we move, we will be rescuing the domestic animals under Uma’s Haven. We will still be Bradshaw Mt Wildlife with the same tax ID # we are just a DBA Uma’s Haven. For those of you that actually read our newsletters you will remember Uma the abused cat that we rescued 2 years ago, that touched our heart more than any animal we have every rescued. We are naming the sanctuary in her honor. Uma’s Haven will be a no-kill cat sanctuary rescuing non-adoptable teenage cats, leukemia and aids cats, injured and abused cats. We will leave the adoptable healthy cats to the other rescues organizations in town. gofundme.com/umas-haven-a-nokill-cat-sanctuary
Please Help Us Reach Our Goals
The coming year will be very difficult because not only do we still have to raise money under Bradshaw Mountain Wildlife to feed and care for the 100 plus animals we currently house, but we also have to raise money under Uma’s Haven to raise money for the new property. We appreciate all donations big and small to help us reach our future goals in 2017. We really would like to be able to move by summer of 2017
